Medium is the Message
"Medium is the Message" is a quote said once by Marshall McLuhan. When first hearing this quote, I found it a little confusing because I personally always thought that it wasn't really important how or what medium was used, but the only importance was the actually message being delivered. However, after doing a little research on the topic I found that McLuhan's quote actually made a lot of sense. At first, I thought that McLuhan meant that the content wasn't important, and only the medium was. McLuhan actually proposed that throughout that time, media was developing so quickly and the world was technologically advancing so fast. However, the public and everyone focused only on the content that they saw in front of them, not even realizing how rapidly society was changing. People didn't notice that their lives were changing, their daily routines were now revolving around media. All the people were being mind blown by this new age of information and ways access that they norms of society began to change so rapidly and nobody could stop and notice that lives were changing. People now aren't thinking about mailing letters, or sending postcards - people are now sending emails, picture texts and skyping! McLuhan points out that yes, the content may be important however, the medium is equally as important in gaining knowledge and the message. I find it amazing how ridiculous the truth is; that people really don't notice how fast the world is technologically advancing. McLuhan opened the world up to a different perspective and allowed people to actually realize something that's happening in front of them.
